Monthly Spotlight
This monthly spotlight highlights Dr Yajun Xiao’s exemplary mentorship at XJTLU’s International Business School Suzhou (IBSS). Under his guidance, an undergraduate research project applying large language models to analyse SME financing was selected for two prestigious national finance conferences, demonstrating his commitment to research-led teaching.
Through the Applied Finance Alliance, Dr Xiao mentors students in fintech applications, competition preparation, and industry projects. These efforts, alongside colleagues’ success in coaching teams to the CFA Institute Research Challenge finals, reflect the department’s collective commitment to student development.
Dr Xiao’s mentorship embodies IBSS’s core mission of cultivating future innovators through rigorous academic training and real-world engagement in a student-centred environment, showcasing how faculty dedication transforms the student experience and creates meaningful learning outcomes.
The IBSS Department of Finance prepares students for careers in business and finance through student-centred education that combines cutting-edge financial knowledge, industry expertise and the development of key professional soft skills.
We maintain close connections with the corporate world through organisations and companies such as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute and Refinitive (formerly Thomson Reuters), in addition to IBSS corporate partners spanning a wide range of industries.
Department of Finance possesses an expert team of academic staff and full-time PhD students, as well as strong relationships with IBSS’s other departments that span teaching, interdisciplinary research and service.
