The Department of Civil Engineering has six laboratory facilities that are located on the second and the third floor and basement in Engineering Building. It is estimated the equipment in the CEN facilities is over RMB 10 million, covering the core subjects of structural engineering, materials, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and environment, and to support teaching and research activities.
Structural Laboratory
500T Structural Testing System
Multi-channel loading system. It can be used to apply loads from two directions for a statistical test, with a 5000kN capacity and a 4 m high space for specimens. Additionally, it can be used to apply dynamic loads from four directions with a capacity of 500 kN, and a 2 m × 3 m space for testing the sample.
200T Structural Testing System
This machine is used for compressive tests on large specimens, with a testing space of 1.2 m × 3 m.
Concrete Mixer
The capacity of the concrete mixer is 350 L. It is used for making a large amount of concrete and casting.
Compressing Machine
Compressing machine for testing compressive strength for concrete cubes and cylinders.
50T Triaxial Tester
This machine is an electro-hydraulic servo-controlled multi-testing system that can be used for triaxial test loading in the vertical Z direction, the horizontal X direction, and the horizontal Y direction.
Universal Testing Machine
This is a 300 kN load electronic universal testing machine. The application is for tensile, compressive, and bending tests of materials or structures.
Autoclave machine
Steam heating and pressure equipment. It is used for heating and pressure-curing of concrete materials.
Concrete Carbonation Test Chamber
This is a concrete ageing test equipment. It is used for curing concrete specimens at a constant temperature, humidity, and high carbon dioxide concentration.
Geotechnical Laboratory
The Geotechnical Laboratory is equipped with some of the most modern machines, providing advanced testing for soil, rock, and other geotechnical materials. It is crucial for research and practice in the fields of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.

Manually controlled static triaxial testing.
Consolidation Test System
Used for compression testing of saturated cohesive
soil samples under lateral confinement conditions.
Rheometer
Used to determine the rheological properties of
polymer melts, polymer solutions, suspensions, lotion, coatings, inks and food.
Hydraulic Laboratory
The hydraulic laboratory is equipped with various hydraulic instruments used to perform tests in hydraulic and hydrodynamic applications. There are open channel flume testers for simulating water flow, instruments for hydrostatic testing, a Renault tester, a Bernoulli equation tester, a pilot tube, a local resistance tester, and others.
Hydraulics Demonstration Instrument
This is a flow demonstrator. It is used to demonstrate the stream – line and trajectory of wing flow and lift direction.
Flume
This water flume is an open channel. It is used for hydraulics and fluid flow tests.
Hydraulics Demonstration Instrument
Bernoulli equation tester is applied to measure the changes in fluid pressure when the water flow velocity changes.
Environmental Laboratory
The environmental laboratory is equipped with advanced instruments for measuring the content and composition of different elements in environmental, petrochemical, chemical and material fields. This laboratory contributes to research and practice in environmental engineering. It is located in EB376.
Sample analysis instrument
This instrument measures the composition in environmental, chemical, petrochemical, food, forensic, pharmaceutical and material fields.

This instrument perform simultaneous Thermal Analysis, the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were combined to obtain the mass change and the endothermic and exothermic phases simultaneously by using the same sample in the same measurement.
Equipment for Mechanical Demonstration
The equipment for mechanical demonstration is used to simulate the bending moment in a beam, shear force in a beam, deflection of a beam, deformation of an asymmetric beam under stress, strain distribution in truss structures, and other phenomena. This demonstration is crucial for civil engineering students to gain a deeper understanding of the teaching content in the Modules.
